Most of the time, F&B outlets in Singapore can only deliver excellence in 2 of these 3 areas: food, service or pricing. If there’s good food at low prices, expect terrible service (think Amoy fish soup, for example). It’s really rare to come across an eatery that delivers on all fronts. J’s Wok & Grill (who’s J by the way?) at Tampines is simply amazing. We popped by today at 3pm for a really late lunch and we were pleasantly surprised at the food quality, affordable prices and friendly staff.
I ordered the Mushroom Steak A La Florence ($23.70 before discount) that you see in the picture above. I LOVE that riot of color on the plate – really whets one’s appetite. And it tastes as good as it looks! They say it’s “baked juicy flavourful marinated tenderloin” and yes, it’s all that! I’d just state it’s “ridiculously juicy tenderloin” if they put me in charge of the menu. 
And I love how there are “herby diced potatoes” to go along with the meat. No, there isn’t any asparagus like in the picture in their menu but no one’s complaining.
Sorry, can’t turn vegetarian or vegan ever… meat is just too yummy!
The Spicy Shrimp Pasta ($14.70, again before discount) doesn’t look like much. But just go ahead and add a little more of their chili flakes and you’ll have the shiok-est pasta dish in the whole of Tampines. Halfway through this dish, he let me try the pasta and I ended up finishing everything on his behalf, carb-free diet be damned.
Looks are so deceiving!
The bill for this meal came up to just S$22.60, with service charge and GST already included! The staff served us iced water without us having to request for it. As long as you don’t order a beverage, I think they’ll just give you water anyway. So sweet!
