Review: Melvin’s Durian Delivery – Butter @ $9/kg!

I got to know about Melvin’s Durian via the Spikes of Love Facebook Page founded by Collin Chee, whom you’ll probably recognize from Ch 8 dramas. And I only found out about Spikes of Love as I stalk Durian Empire’s FB Page. Haha! Since I don’t live anywhere near Melvin’s Durian, delivery’s the best option for me. 🙂

The current durian season is ending soon so I thought I should place an order right now instead of waiting till the next season in… June? Collin recommends the Butter which costs $9/kg. So I thought it’s worth a try. Plus there’s buy-4-get-1-free now! 😉

Since cash-on-delivery is a welcome option, I placed my order via Whatsapp. Replies are prompt though I had to ask twice before being told how much I had to pay. 😅

In case you’re wondering, the total damage is $105.

The durians arrived at 9.01pm.

I’ll probably pick an earlier delivery slot next time ‘cos 7 to 10 is a bit awkward. At 7pm, I’ll still be too full from dinner. Closer to 10pm and I’m already ready for bed. The 4pm to 7pm timeslot should be ideal. I’ll just put the durians in the fridge and enjoy them chilled any time I’d like. Maybe even while preparing dinner! That’s a thought.

I’ve been eating Mao Shan Wang durians recently so in comparison, Butter is more bitter so it is great for folks who dislike durians which are too sweet. It’s also super fleshy (OMG!) and smells equally strong though the color is a lighter yellow. Seeds are mostly flat like MSW’s though I did get one ginormous seed.

Overall, you’ll find Butter is really worth it ‘cos the flesh is very thick and… at $9/kg… guys, seriously? Just order now for tomorrow! In case you are wondering, no, I didn’t tell them I’m a blogger so the quality of the durians I received are going to be what you’ll probably receive as a customer too. 🙂

Follow ‘Melvin’s Durian’ on Facebook to find out their prices (refreshed daily) and the ‘deets on how to place your order. I really appreciate how durian sellers like Melvin and Zen (from Durian Empire) publish their rates on FB daily so you can decide who to visit or order from without having to call anyone or head down to the stalls. Now all I need is an app that lets me track where the delivery guy is, how many deliveries he’s making and the estimated time of arrival. 😉 App developers… please get crackin’.
