Movie Review: The Hunger Games – Catching Fire

I went to catch ‘The Hunger Games’ yesterday at GV Katong. I had thought that there would be plenty of Gold Class seats on a Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, at the ticket counter, I found out that only one pair of couple seats, right in front of the screen, was available.

So we caught the movie with just the general tickets ($6.50 for movie club members). And we were thankful we did so.

We found the movie strangely disappointing. Having read rave reviews, my hopes were high, but they were reduced to ashes by the time we exited the cinema with the thought “That was it?”

But first… the synopsis and trailer…

Synopsis from GV:

“THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.”

The trailer from YouTube:

I don’t want to say more. If you haven’t caught the movie already, just don’t have your hopes up too high.

The costumes are superb, no doubt. Some actors rather cute too. But there’s not much else to rock your weekday evening. ;)
