I picked the Thai Style Stewed Prawn Vermicelli in Claypot ($18) as it had 7 prawns in the picture in the menu (dish looked so delicious!) However, it was served with fewer than 7 prawns but never mind, taste is paramount. Also, we had 50% discount via Eatigo so I guess certain things are also ‘discounted’. Image may be NSFW.

The prawns were plump and fresh, and I LOVE that they included garlic in the vermicelli dish. The garlic was peeled but not sliced, chopped or minced – a good thing since my darling hates eating garlic (by accident). I eat them whole and I relish every bite. Image may be NSFW.

It looks good on the menu, ya? (Pic at the bottom)

The Tom Yum soup was good too – just the right amount of spice so it whets your appetite but doesn’t compel you to reach for a tissue. A good amount of sweetness too. And the restaurant provides complimentary water – iced / at room temperature. Just help yourself:

The set lunches, as most set lunches are, look like they’re good value for money:

New Lotus Thai is a short walk from the Jalan Besar Downtown Line Station. Here’s an interesting story…
After heading out of the fare gantries, I chanced upon a store that sold a variety of items. Right at the entrance was one of those rotating stands which held socks – and I need new socks! So I got down on one knee to check out the various designs and colors, and suddenly this lady carrying a bag comes and stands near me, obviously looking at what I was doing, and I said in Mandarin “Is this shop yours?”
And she replied that it was, and she was about to head out for a bit.
So I asked if maybe I should just not buy / browse then, expecting her to say no, it’s OK.
Her reply was shocking. She told me to just hurry up lah.
I’d barely spent 5 seconds in the store, or rather outside the store!
So… something I’ve learnt from my pal recently: it’s my money and I decide who I want to give it to.
I tell her it’s fine. And I get up and leave.
You’re NEVER going to get my money, woman. I thought I’ll support a small business and even though the socks cost $1.50 a pair in her store, and I can probably get them at 30cents from China (online), I was willing to spend that money on maybe 5 new pairs. But with this kind of attitude and service, nah, am gonna keep the money safe in my wallet. Image may be NSFW.

Excuse me while I go shop for new socks online.
