Made clam spaghetti for dinner today as I have this big pack of frozen clams taking up lots of space in the freezer. But for some reason, I wanted to have some brinjal too. And brinjal in clam spaghetti sounds a little weird. So I prepared brinjal + long bean in a sambal sauce, to be served separately. A strange combination, no doubt. But we loved it!
The taste is pretty good. “Legit” as some would say. But of course, it contains MSG as a flavor enhancer. So, you know, it definitely tastes good.
I bought the Gimson Nyonya Sambal paste at a warehouse sale I went to recently. I think I paid $3.50 for this. This 200g pack is supposedly good for 4 to 6 pax – I guess they are referring to using this as sambal for, say, nasi lemak. Otherwise, for a dish of seafood or veggies, one pack will be used up all at once.
If you’d like to try just a little, you can get a $1 pack of Gimson Nyonya Sambal over at Song Fish: https://songfish.com.sg/product/gimson-nyonya-sambal/ And yes, I think it’ll go really well with fish, maybe even stingray!
(*The purpose of this blogpost? To remind myself where to get this sambal next time. Totally not sponsored by Gimson though they are welcome to – write to me!)
