I spotted some irresistible mooncake ‘Flash Deals’ on Shopee recently: Gin Thye’s 2pc Premium Durian Snowskin Mooncake (without tin box) for $9.90 (usual: $29) and 4pc Less Sugar Red Bean Traditional Baked Mooncake for $9.90 (usual: $52). So I bought 2 sets each! Turned out to be a ridiculously good deal because the mooncakes are big – as large as my palm, and not the tiny ones you can finish in one mouthful!
I do especially LOVE the durian snowskin mooncake. Keep these in the freezer and let them thaw for just a while, and they taste like super fragrant ice cream mooncakes! The ‘snowskin’ is really thin, and the filling is generous!
I shared one with my darling, and I was quite surprised that my sister managed to finish one of the durian mooncakes by herself! <- She’s rather picky about food so it’s a clear indicator that this is really good.
However, the traditional mooncakes are not my favorite. Generous filling, yes. Not too sweet, yup. But the mooncake skin, to me, tastes a little strange.
I would buy the Durian Mooncakes again if I see them sold at $9.90! Haha! Now it’s $18, which is still the ‘early bird special’ but… (>_<)
Let me know if you have a recommendation for good durian snowskin mooncakes! Somehow I have a feeling I’ll be purchasing and eating a few more before the Mid-Autumn Festival is over. Haha!
