Many bloggers have visited Kampong Buangkok – the last surviving kampong in Singapore. And after reading their blog entries, I felt the kampong’s worth a visit as a kampong is such an oddity in “modern” Singapore. According to Wikipedia, Kampong Buangkok has 28 families which pay about $13 in rent. How’s that for affordable housing?

Welcome to Kampong Lorong Buangkok

We visited the kampong just after rain and had to side-step many puddles of rainwater. Yes, it was the authentic kampong experience. :P

What looked really out-of-place in the kampong were the many cars (including one Mercedes) which supposedly belonged to the residents:

Loved that there was a lot of flora and fauna within the kampong:

The highlight of this visit was an encounter with a cute and very affectionate cat *meow*

Want to visit the kampong before it gets *erm* “upgraded” by the government?

Kampong Buangkok (Lorong Buangkok) is accessible via Yio Chu Kang Road. It’d be best to drive there, or walk from the nearest bus-stop. :)
