DON DON DONKI opened its doors to the public at Waterway Point this morning at 10am. I popped by when it was almost 11am – the crowd should have dispersed, no? Hahaa! The Q was still ridiculously long. Not that it should have mattered. I’d won 2 VIP passes from DON DON DONKI so I could skip the queue. They also gave me a welcome pack which came packed with goodies – I’ll show them to you in a bit. Anyway… lots of pictures in this post so be prepared!
So if you’re familiar with Waterway Point, at Basement 1 of the West Wing, there are tenants like Daiso, ValuDollar, Pizza Hut, etc. And the unit opposite Pizza Hut used to be rented out to Toys”R”Us but now it has been taken over by DON DON DONKI. (The toy store has moved its outlet to level 2 of the same mall) *There used to be an entrance/exit between Toys”R”Us and Pizza Hut and people went in and out via those doors, but the pandemic hit and those doors were almost shut for good. Customers had to enter the mall via the other set of doors near the current Chateraise outlet. I suspect it caused Toys”R”Us’ sales to plummet. But DON DON DONKI looks set to reverse the trend. ALSO… that set of doors (which I’d thought would be permanently shut) were OPEN today! Woohoo!
I suppose you can expect to queue for at least 30 minutes to an hour if you were to visit this weekend, as it’s their opening weekend…

As I’d won a pair of VIP passes, my darling and I could walk right into the store after flashing these wristbands. Sweet~~~ I suppose he’ll stop complaining about how I tag him on social media as part of contest mechanics from now on…

At the entrance are these gachapon machines. There’s Demon Slayer, Pokemon, Doraemon, Mickey, and more. Parents… be prepared. Your kids will want these!

My darling said Donki is giving Subway a run for their money. Hehehe! I have to say the potato salad bun looks tempting.
And here’s something I’d almost bought: Mentaiko Mayonnaise. Japanese mayo is really scary because it’s so good (hello, kewpie) that you just want to have it with everything… rice? Potato salad? Pasta? Omelette! Fries!!!

And there are those items we just love to ogle… like this $359.46 King Crab…

Donpen also made an appearance. Folks in the queue could get some pictures while waiting. Donki’s also smart enough to have flyers handed out to people in the queue so they can browse while waiting.

I spotted some sort of fruit tart in another shopper’s basket but couldn’t figure out where she’d gotten it. The store was really crowded and it was getting a little cramped in there. So we decided to check out and head to Chateraise to get dessert…

Interestingly, because everyone was queuing for Donki, other stores nearby appeared to be very much affected. At KOI, there wasn’t a queue and the same could be said for Chateraise. So erm… thanks DONKI!
And besides the pair of VIP passes, I took home a goodie bag with a generous selection of gifts… There’s everything from plum liquor to ice pop molds which look like carrots. XD

I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to DON DON DONKI today. Will be back again when it’s less crowded.
