The ‘TTM Magazine Interview – Media Enquiry’ Scam That Even Bloggers Kenna

I received a decently-worded email this morning, from a seemingly-legit email account (media@magazinepublic.com), but decided to Google and see what I could find before replying to the sender. Turns out this is an ‘interview scam’ targeting artists, models, musicians, entrepreneurs, influencers and people making an impact! I asked my darling if I should play along and see what happens next but he thinks it’s an absolute waste of time. So instead of replying to the scammer, I’m just going to blog about this and put it out there so hopefully, fewer people get scammed.

Here’s the email in full:

Good morning,

My name is Blake Edwards and I am on the editorial staff of TTM Magazine. One of your social media followers nominated you for an interview with our magazine and we would love to publish you in our next issue.

We work with artists, models, musicians, entrepreneurs, influencers and people making an impact. We are very selective when choosing talent for publishing and we believe your brand is a great fit.

If you would like to be interviewed and featured in our upcoming issue, Let us know immediately as we are closing out our selections for this publishing cycle, We wish you continued success and we look forward to your response. Thanks!

Blake Edwards Senior , V.P. of Editorial Staff

Actually it’s pretty well-crafted. The first two paragraphs stroke the ego, and the last paragraph conveys that sense of urgency in demanding your immediate reply as the selection round for this publishing cycle is ending soon. 😀

How the scam works: I found out via this tumblr post that you are offered an interview then they’ll ask you for money in order to mail you the magazines. XD

In any case, if you were to scrutinize the email, there are a couple of errors (let me know if I missed anything!) – not spelling errors but punctuation:

Instead of full stops preceding the capitalized letters, Blake Edwards uses commas. Then, awkward space after ‘Senior’ and the comma.

For someone who’s the VP of the editorial staff for a supposedly-reputable magazine, this is probably a crime punishable by death. Muahahaha.

Will there be any local victims of this scam? Hmm… we shall see. I’ve already done my part. *shrugs*

This Time Magazine? Hmm… Next Time Magazine sounds better lah. 😛
