Went back to Punggol Regional Library to borrow more books for Melody and noticed this ‘Loan Promotion’ so I asked about the “gift”. Turns out it’s a $10 voucher for Encik Tan (there’s an outlet at Waterway Point :D) – just have to borrow 8 books using the NLB app. I’ve never used the app before so I downloaded it on the spot. Once you’ve logged into your NLB account, you can scan the QR code or barcode on the spines of the books and borrow them immediately. WOW! So here’s a tip from this newbie: Borrow as you go, meaning you don’t wait till you have 8 books in total then start scanning them one by one, as the app may ‘hang’. Once you’ve selected a book, just scan it immediately, and when you have a total of 8, go collect your Encik Tan voucher by showing staff your loan receipt via the app.

Cool, right? I love this library. Really cannot wait for all 5 levels to be fully open.

Currently, we have been making good use of the Family Lounge (to give Melody her milk) and the Nursing Room (to change her diaper). Everywhere’s super clean and there’s usually no one else. We’ve yet to meet another family in the lounge or nursing room. 😀 Of course, we pop by only on weekdays. I heard it’s VERY different during weekends!

During our previous visit, I also saw the aftermath of a little ‘accident’ on the escalators inside the library. A man was seated on a step halfway up the escalator (which had been stopped) and he was cradling his two young children. One child was screaming hysterically. I believe BOTH kids got their feet stuck in the escalator gap. Maintenance crew were called. The SCDF came. The paramedics attended to the children once they were ‘rescued’. I don’t think they were seriously injured as the escalator was stopped in time. I didn’t see any blood at all. Apart from a bad scare, I think the kids are OK. Parents, do note that strollers and kick scooters should NOT be pushed onto the escalators. There’s a perfectly good, wide ramp in Punggol Regional Library which you can use to get from Level 1 to 2 easily. Don’t risk your children’s safety by bringing them and all your barang barang up/down the escalators, please.

We also popped by the One Punggol Hawker Centre. FINALLY got to try the Eng Kee Chicken Wings… ok lah, dabao-ed and yet to eat but so happy that the crazy-long queue was no longer there after lunchtime. 😀

And here’s the pricing for all their items:

We ate beef horfun from 老地方 (lao di fang) – $7 because they assume you want the addition of the egg…

Pretty tasty! Don’t forget to take the sliced green and red chillis! The noodles are so smooth, and the gravy is definitely elevated with the addition of the egg so just pay more lah. 😀

And since it rained all night yesterday, I wanted to have something hot and soupy. So I ordered this $6 bowl of bak kut teh… add 60 cents for rice:

It’s decent. I wouldn’t say it’s the best bak kut teh in Punggol as that accolade belongs to another stall. 😀 But for days the media terms “sweater weather” days, this really hits the spot.
