Gotta thank a reader (YC) for dragging me out of my blogging hiatus to do this. Basically, she’d sent me an email (6.20pm) after leaving the same message via blog Contact form at 6.18pm yesterday. Kancheong much, yes…
And the gist of the message was that she’s paying more now in 2024 compared to what I’d paid back in 2022… two freaking years ago. We’re not talking about 2 months or 2 weeks ago, ok. For instance, she says her first consult cost $124 (as you can see in the picture above) for her 20-week scan. (For the figure in my blogpost comparing my subsidised vs non-subsidised rates, it was for week 37 – week 38 when I switched to ‘private’ route at KKH just before my scheduled csection) Because of her email… I did a little excavation at home and retrieved my receipts from 2022 (!) and found that the same consult for me cost $98. So that’s a 26% increase over 2 years? (These numbers are before any subsidy, and well, obviously there’s been inflation).
*Also… do note that subsequent consults were cheaper (for me at least). It was just the first one that was pricier.
And all I wish to say is please don’t write to bloggers telling them to update info or delete blogposts simply because prices have gone up.
You won’t go to a food blogger and say “OI the fishball noodles now cost $4.90 leh! Not the $3.50 stated in your 2022 blogpost. Update or remove the post hor!” It would be too exhausting for anyone to keep tabs on the fishball noodle stall and reflect all price changes e.g. “Fishball noodles $3.50 (2022), now $4 (2023), further price increase to $4.90 (2024)”. Multiply that by all the posts done on other F&B places in SG…
As long as it’s stated that $3.50 price was the amount charged in 2022… it is already implied that if you pop by the stall in any subsequent year, you’re lucky if it’s still $3.50 BUT you should expect that the price will be higher, ‘cos of inflation mah.
Aiyah ok lah… pregnant ladies should be given some leeway… ‘cos “hormones and stress and all that”.
So… I just wanted to put it out here that prices of whatever you read on this blog from 2022 or earlier would certainly be very different in 2024 and beyond. SO… as you should do before buying anything… ASK about the current price before committing. If you’ve already ordered the fishball noodles without asking how much it costs NOW, then… *shrugs*.
Also… this reader is very likely getting MORE than we did in terms of Baby Bonus entitlements. AND more parental leave. So… who’s complaining? XD
I chose KKH because I knew that if there were complications later on in my pregnancy or delivery, the private hospitals would refer me to KKH if they weren’t able to cope. So it made more sense to just be a patient at KKH from the start. So don’t split hairs about the fees and all.
I was barely working at that point. I followed hubby around when he went to work because I wanted him to be near me should I collapse suddenly from the massive ovarian cyst I had either twisting (causing severe pain) or rupturing (causing massive bleeding and possibly death).

OK I’ve run out of steam. I don’t want to be too hard on a pregnant lady despite the accusations and allegations. I told her I’m sorry if she felt misled by my blogposts and thought the 2022 prices would still be the same in 2024 (though I never said/wrote/implied any such thing). (@_@) So for the record… IF YOU ARE PREGNANT AND CONSIDERING KKH… PLEASE CHECK WITH THEM FOR THE LATEST FEE STRUCTURE.
