I’m a big fan of the variety show ‘小明星大跟班’ hosted by “Local King” Jacky Wu and his daughter, Sandy. It’s a must-watch everyday! And in one of their recent episodes, 5 celebrities recommended their favorite treats for an afternoon tea session with their girlfriends. I was so impressed that I did some investigative work in order to track down all 5 cafes. If they are going to introduce the yummy treats on TV, why not tell us exactly where they are from as well?
I fully intend to visit these 5 cafes the next time I head to Taipei!
#1: Kouhino5 光扉5號
This rose-like apple pie must have been painstakingly put together slice by slice to create this gorgeous pie to set the hearts of ladies aflutter. So gorgeous! Do we have something similar here in Singapore for Mother’s Day? I think it would be a hit!
The cafe is located at 大安區大安路一段31巷5號 Taipei, Taiwan 106.

#2: Escape From Paris
This particular dessert is called ‘青澀初戀’ and costs NT$240 (about S$11). It supposedly contains mousse made from apple cider and the center has apple filling. But I really don’t care. It looks so much like an actual green apple! The one in pink below is ‘粉紅茉莉花’ (pink jasmine) and also costs NT$240.
Escape from Paris is located at 內湖區內湖路一段388號2樓 Taipei, Taiwan 11493

#3: 冰果甜心 Bingirl
Apparently, cut it in half and the cross-section is heart-shaped. Good for proposals! Just hide a ring within. I don’t think this will melt very fast so go ahead and take a million photos!
The cafe is located within Att4Fun mall at Xinyi District, 台北市信義區松壽路12號4樓
Taipei, Taiwan 110

#4: Coffee Smith Cake 時安靜好
That sugar art is AWESOME. Why do we not have such decadent desserts in Singapore? Or have I not noticed them?
The cafe 時安靜好 is located at 四平街2號1樓 Taipei, Taiwan 10458.

#5: if bingo 一夫冰果
A shark carved out of a mini seedless watermelon and a parrot from a pineapple? Too cute! A definite hit with the kiddos!
The cafe is located at 中和區安平路218號 Chungho 23572.

I think it’s great for F&B business people in Singapore to head often to Taiwan. There’s so much creativity and love for fun, wacky ideas there. Exactly what we desperately need in Singapore. Here, it’s all about (stupid) trends… doughnuts, churros, cupcakes, salted egg everything, bubble tea (oh gosh) and the list goes on. We need to invent and innovate, and instead of constantly bringing in franchised brands from overseas, we need to create brands and concepts people in other countries want – so they can get our franchises.
