Xiang Hao Chi Taiwanese Food Ang Mo Kio

Just as Nakhon Kitchen is where many folks go to for their Thai food fix, I think Xiang Hao Chi 饗好吃 is where people go to for Taiwanese food in Singapore, when they are unable to travel to Taiwan yet miss the (cheap) delicacies there. The food sold here is reasonably priced: $3.80 for Braised Pork Rice, Braised Chicken Thigh Rice (which I’ll definitely try next time), Braised Intestines Mee Sua, etc. 😀 And if you order one of the mains, you get a dollar off drinks and / or dessert too!

So, for my Combo Mee Sua + Drink + Snow Ice, I paid just $9.70. The 青蛙下蛋 drink I ordered was a little too sour (because they were a little heavy-handed with the sour plums) and the mee sua should have been cooked a little longer. I like mee sua that has been simmering in the pot for a long time – the flavor gets in and the noodle strands get real plump. This is why I don’t ever order a bowl of mee sua from Shilin Street Snacks (with outlets all over Singapore… and JB) in the morning when they’ve only just started cooking the mee sua. In the afternoon or early evening, that’s when the mee sua gets really tasty (assuming it’s that same pot from early in the morning, and not a new one). 😉

BUT 饗好吃’s snow ice is DA BOMB! You can pay two or three times as much for snow ice elsewhere and the quality doesn’t compare with the one here!

Xiang Hao Chi Snow Ice

There were 2 families (with kiddos) seated facing the wall and they were all enjoying the snow ice. From their accents, I thought they must be Taiwanese. And if the Taiwanese come all the way here for snow ice, you probably can tell it’s delicious.

The cute penguin logo and pictures on the wall were what drew (haha) me in…

This outlet is near the Cheng San hawker centre at Ang Mo Kio. For the life of me, I cannot find their address online. Apparently, only the Upper Thomson Road outlet is listed online. (And they have Fave a.k.a Groupon deals for their snow ice too). But if you’re familiar with the hawker centre, you should be able to find this cute shop. Try their snow ice. You’ll thank me after that! 🙂
