Had lunch again at Crab In Da Bag this week because there was still a Fave voucher left unused and I’ll be in the Tanglin area with my pal anyway. I ordered the Sailor’s lunch ($18++) which is their Set Lunch Special. Once again, there were items that were unavailable. The corn soup that was supposed to come with the set lunch was swopped out for fries (not that I’m complaining), and the Pirate’s Lunch ($16) set was unavailable too. The latter features a Shrimp Sandwich. I’m probably not going to enjoy a shrimp sandwich but I’m just wondering why there’s only 1 available option for their set lunches.
Getting the Fave voucher for the Soft Shell Crab Burger isn’t actually the best deal either:
It’s actually two small sliders instead of one big, juicy burger. And it comes with a miserable sprinkling of fries. The chowder was decent. Though the set doesn’t come with a drink. Get the Fave voucher for the yummy prawns instead!
Just opt for their in-house lunch specials if you want a filling meal. I highly recommend the Sailor’s Lunch!
The pasta is like the angmoh version of our lor mee. A sticky sauce with clams, finely-sliced sausage and most importantly, chili padi! Chili padi just goes really well with pasta; I’m not even sure why. But that heat just whets my appetite and makes me want more of this pasta!
And the dessert they call the ‘Love Boat’ is unique. Watermelon? Nope. It’s actually honeydew with red-colored agar agar on top. What I’m guessing they did is to slice a whole honeydew in half, and remove the seeds and all in the middle, then pour in the agar agar mixture and let it set in the fridge. Slice before serving. No need for plastic jelly cups! Brilliant!
The server, Erwin, a friendly Filipino dude said he gave me two slices of the dessert so my photog pal could have one too. So sweet! This guy seems much nicer than the grouchy fella who waited on our table previously. I know, I know. F&B is a tough industry to work in. The long hours and sometimes hangry guests can be difficult to handle. I think bosses need to do more regarding the welfare of their staff. Maybe allow for breaks during off-peak hours so staff can take a nap somewhere. Also, staff can continually ‘upskill’ so they can enjoy career progression as well as earn more. The ULeap application is a great place to start as it offers free F&B modules, among others!
