Kai Sushi & Robatayaki @ #04-68 Plaza Singapura

My pals and I wanted to eat at Suki Ya (Plaza Singapura) yesterday evening BUT there was such a long queue outside! Feels like most people are back from their holidays. So unlike the situation at the start of the school holidays, when Singapore didn’t seem as overcrowded as it usually is. *sigh* Anyway, since my pals were feeling hungry and didn’t want to wait, we went to Kai Sushi & Robatayaki. There were only 2 other parties in the queue: a young couple and two female friends. Strangely enough, because mine was a group of 3, we were seated ahead of the other two pairs of diners!

One pal ordered the beef set you see above. The plating’s quite pretty though I have to say the beef’s a little overcooked. The best part about the set is, interestingly, the chawanmushi! It’s perfect – so silky smooth and tasty. Chawanmushi here is expensive when ordered a la carte (I think it’s $6++) but you can get it in a set meal.

I ordered the salmon head in miso soup. Actually very worth it at $9.80++. Was craving for something soupy as the weather was so cold. Actually it kept raining and stopping yesterday. Was very frustrating. (@_@)

Another pal ordered the Tendon ($16.80++). He had trouble finishing the rice because it was rather dry – they were somewhat stingy with the sauce.

The tendon arrived a good 9 minutes after the beef. Not sure why it’d take so long. Probably the beef was already pre-cooked?

As we’d gone past a Ya Kun store, I finally got to purchase the special Pocky sticks, which we ate while waiting for our meal to be served.

I saw my pal dipping the Pocky sticks into her hot tea so I told her to place them on the rim instead. The steam will still “melt” the “kaya toast”.

Truth be told… the kaya toast Pocky doesn’t taste very good. It tastes somewhat artificial. It’s hard to describe the taste but put simply, if no one told me it’s Kaya Toast flavor, I wouldn’t have been able to tell anyway.

Somehow, the food and drink yesterday all seemed to disappoint. We had pre-dinner drinks at Starbucks and I’d ordered something called the Mango Passion Fruit Cold Foam Iced Shaken Black Tea. It was unexciting. And it wasn’t even sweet at all. I might as well have gotten some iced water. Unimpressed by that foam… whether cold or not.

And I spotted the Mobile Order and Pay collection point:

Apparently, your drink will sit there till you come pick it up. Hmm. The good thing is you don’t have to wait – just grab n go. But the not-so-good thing is that anyone can simply take your drink. The staff do not watch over this section. But I did see that the lady who collected this drink also requested for a cup of iced water – and the staff who gave her the water also put a lid on the cup and kind of let it slide over the counter towards the customer, instead of handing it over with two hands. Hmm… she possibly needs retraining? (@_@)

My not-very-impressive cold foam drink and my pal’s cup of earl grey tea with milk:

I don’t know why but the recent Starbucks drinks I’ve had aren’t sweet at all. Do they get the HPB Healthier Choice accreditation for their beverages or what? Image may be NSFW.
