Been too lazy to head out these days as it KEEPS raining! But my darling said he wanted to dine at ‘Fu Er Dai’ (富二代, i.e. the second generation of a wealthy family) which is an eatery at Serangoon Garden. *Actually I don’t know if it should be called a restaurant since the decor is rather cafe-ish, so I’ll just call it an ‘eatery’, ya? I thought the name is SO pretentious, and perhaps a bit snobbish? SO… only the rich young kids should eat here? But it’s also intriguing, like maybe we should go find out what the second generation of rich families are up to. A quick check on their Facebook page reveals that this place opened quite recently – 25th Aug 2019 – but they are already listed on Eatigo. We booked our dinner slot at 30% off via Eatigo.
At first, I was surprised at the single-digit prices, like $9 for Chicken Chop, $8 for ‘Pig Leg Rice’, $5 for hakka yong tau foo, etc. And with 30% off, that’s pretty decent, no? (*There’s service charge but no GST)
I ordered the Spaghetti ($12) which came with an assortment of seafood, thinly sliced mushroom, and some cherry tomatoes. It smelled really good and was delicious too. I was very impressed.
We didn’t want to order side dishes so we decided to share 3 mains between us. He had the Chicken Chop with a sunny side up egg and luncheon meat fries:
I’d say the chicken chop is probably food court standard. Though people who love spam fries will love this as a side lah. And there’s just a little serving of coleslaw.
As for the yong tau foo, which is what this place is supposedly known for, I’d have to say it’s decent but nothing to shout about. The broth isn’t impressive, the noodles seem ordinary and the only highlight is the yong tau foo itself which isn’t too oily. But nothing really stands out. And I think it’d be nice to have more chili sauce.
You can also order their yong tau foo via the ‘boat noodles’ style – pay 90 cents for each bowl. I’m not sure how popular this option is though.
I might try the $16 Abalone Cheese Beehoon if I’m feeling adventurous next time. Or maybe not.
The owners must love pandas a lot to have them all over the place, and as their mascot too:
Cafe-ish decor, no? Probably very instagrammable too.
I love that the staff here are cheery and polite. And even when we didn’t want to order drinks (brought my own bottle), they didn’t bat an eyelid.
Here’s the Fu Er Dai menu and prices:
And I found the washroom very impressive. This ‘gold’ washbasin and tap looks fantastic. It’s opulent without being gaudy. I like.
Wahahahaa!~

Do make a reservation via Eatigo if you want to dine at Fu Er Dai. I think a discount of 30% or more would certainly make dining here very worth it. Portions are small so just order more mains and/or side dishes and enjoy a variety of dishes!
Fu Er Dai is at 55 Serangoon Garden Way, Singapore 555951. Tel: 6789 9696.
