I cooked Bak Kut Teh for dinner today, no doubt inspired after reading about the guy who breached a Stay-Home Notice (SHN) to go have some bak kut teh. Suddenly I want to know how good that bak kut teh was, and how I can get myself some now! Image may be NSFW.

“Bulan island has the largest pig farm in South East Asia with a standing population of 250,000 pigs. It’s the only farm that is approved by AVA to export live pigs to Singapore for the past 17 years. Singapore imports around 1,100 pigs daily from Bulan island with estimated weight about 90kg each.”
WOW. 1100 pigs… DAILY!
Anyway, here’s what I had bought: Cravins’ Herbal Bak Kut Teh, that currently retails for $2.95 (usual $3.50).

At first, I’d thought I’ll just drop the 2 filter bags into the boiling water and keep the soy sauce for later, to be used as a dipping sauce. However, I tasted the soup and it resembled plain water. So I added 1 packet of the “premium soya sauce” and… OMG… it was just delicious after that. If you read what’s in the ingredients list, you’ll realize there’s E621 in the soy sauce, and E621 is MSG, so of course it’ll be pretty tasty, ya? Image may be NSFW.

And do make sure you have garlic, parsley and chili padi too! Strangely enough, instead of the soup or the pork, what I enjoyed most was the tofu and the super-soft garlic! Image may be NSFW.

And… people…
Until this Circuit Breaker is over, the only Bak Kut Teh you should be having would be what you cook at home yourself, or what you get tabao-ed or delivered to you, ya? And if you’ve got a SHN, just stay at home lor. There’s no Bak Kut Teh that’s worth going to jail for. Image may be NSFW.
