Soi Thai Soi Nice: REALLY Good Braised Pork Knuckle Rice

Thoroughly enjoyed a late lunch today at Seletar Mall. Soi Thai Soi Nice is located right at the entrance so you can’t miss it. My darling had booked a 50% slot via Eatigo, so we ordered two mains and a side dish to share. We skipped drinks and dessert since they’re not eligible for the 50% discount. Got bubble tea from R&B upstairs instead. 😀 And ordinarily, I’d have ordered some sort of prawn dish at Soi Thai Soi Nice. Perhaps with glass noodles or something. But I’m taking a break from seafood this week. And I selected the Braised Pork Knuckle Rice ($10.90 before discount). And what a fabulous choice it was! 😀

In the first picture above, you see the Basil Minced Pork with Rice ($8.90 before discount) which my darling ordered. Actually he’s always ordering the same thing at Thai food places. So I’m not the only one who sticks with the familiar. Haha!

And we also shared this Waterfall Tofu ($10.90 before discount). My darling asked where the said ‘waterfall’ was, and of course I had no good answer to this. I simply replied that the chef must have been inspired to create this dish while he was at a waterfall lor. (>_<) But apparently, as Google tells me, there’s such a thing as a ‘Waterfall sauce’.

The Waterfall Tofu:

In any case, the tofu dish is delightful. And the “garnish” on top is what elevates this humble tofu dish. I love the combination of aromatics – sliced shallot, garlic, cilantro, spring onion, dried chili, etc.

And what I REALLY loved was the Braised Pork Knuckle Rice. It’s like our kway chap, but better. There’s tau kwa, that “ramen egg” with the gooey yolk, sliced pork that’s boneless (yay!), a mushroom, and some kai lan. It was served steaming hot, and was perfect for today’s gloomy weather. Isn’t it amazing how polling day was hot and sunny, but the day before and the day after are so radically different? (Macam the PAP can control the weather, hor? 😛)

Try this, folks. You’ll thank me after:

The desserts were certainly tempting. So I took a picture to share here. Whether it is the Mango Sticky Rice or the ‘Blue Treasure’, or anything else on that page, they do all look like they are worth a try… the next time we dine here without an Eatigo reservation. 😀
