For a dinner at home last week, my darling got us takeaway from 8 degrees Taiwanese Bistro. It was such as treat as I’ve been wanting to visit Taiwan again, but we can’t travel now, can we? Sigh. So the next best alternative would be to enjoy good Taiwanese food in Singapore. For $22, you can get a Buddy Set Meal via Fave. You can pick either rice or oyster & chitterling mee sua (*chitterling = large intestines). I do usually get mee sua from Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, which has many outlets in Singapore – theirs doesn’t come with the large intestines and the amount of seasoning has been tailored to suit local tastebuds so it’s definitely saltier. Included in the set meal is salted chicken and century egg tofu with pork floss OR seaweed fried chicken too! AND there are two cups of bubble milk tea! And before I can start feeling guilty about all that takeaway packaging, I noticed that they are eco-friendly BioPak ones.
The mee sua is actually pretty good. Don’t forget about the special chili sauce. Mix it in and the taste goes from so-so to pretty amazing. But if you’re into that low-salt, low-sugar, low-whatever diet, then don’t.
I like the milk tea too though I have to say there should be more of those yummy pearls!
The milk tea’s served in this BioCup. It’s a bioplastic made from plants and not oil, as stated on their website. And they’ve been certified to be compostable.
I like that 8 degrees Taiwanese Bistro is so accommodating. My darling asked for the salted chicken to be less salty (say whut?!) and they managed to do it. I, on the other hand, would have taken it as-is. Haha! But the one who’s paying decides, eh?
Maybe we’ll try the pork belly rice next. And the only downside to this Fave deal is that you have to get 2 of each: pork belly rice or mee sua. It cannot be one each. Good way to have us return.
