Had lunch at Suntec City today as my darling had a Fave voucher he wanted to redeem: ‘Weekday Mala Xiang Guo Set for 2 People’, which had cost him some $24.69! Not sure why they called it a set as it was just a platter which included various ingredients, and it didn’t come with drinks. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea why people are crazy about Mala this and that. There’s a Mala stall almost everywhere you go, right? The first few mouthfuls are great… then it gets boring quickly. Unlike, say, tomyum, which is spicy and also sourish, and some soup bases even taste a little sweet after. Mala is just… numbingly spicy, end of story. And often, I don’t get to taste the natural sweetness of the ingredients.
Anyway, he’d bought the voucher and my lunch was paid for. So no complaining. XD Haha! I do have to say, though, that Coca at Suntec City offers a great view from some tables (see picture below) and they didn’t exactly adhere strictly to the list of ingredients (and their specified quantities) for the Fave deal. For instance, we had 5 prawns instead of the 4 promised. And definitely more than 2 quail eggs. I don’t think there was kangkong and certainly no pork luncheon meat. But there’s lots of spring onion, which I like, among other things.

Leftover: dried chillis, some peppercorn (I guess) and a few unidentifiable objects.

Thankfully, the staff are sweet and left us alone. We didn’t feel like spending extra on drinks. A can of coke or sprite costs $4++ here. That’s probably $4.68 after GST and SC. Like what you’ll pay for coke on a plane. Except this isn’t a plane.
The usual price for the set we had is $28++ or probably $32.76 and their Weekday Hotpot Set for 2 costs $48++. Probably a lot more worth it to opt for their buffets. And add on $8 per pax for their free-flow of selected beverages. You’ll get dessert too – a serving of ‘East Meet West’ (no idea what that is) / Thai Coconut Ice Cream.
Anyway, we went elsewhere for a drink. I’d bought a 99-cent voucher off Shopee for bubble tea so we went to redeem it at Milksha.

I ordered their lightly roasted oolong tea with a topping of honey pearls. The pearls tasted rubbery, I don’t know why. Weirdest pearls ever. And we waited SO long for the drink. I think there was just one lady working at this outlet and she took all the orders, then made all the drinks and then handed them out.
To make things worse, I bought (cut) pineapple at SF Fruits. The lady behind the counter was SO unfriendly. I told her what I’d like and she went to get it. No greeting, no smile, no acknowledgement. And I had been enticed by the display which had very ripe, glistening pineapple. What she took for me was the opposite: unripe, white pineapple that tasted as sour as they looked. I’d asked for two pieces and one looked really terrible so I asked her to replace that one. She did it grudgingly and the replacement didn’t look much better. What a waste of $3.

Reminder to self: buy fruits only when you get to choose the ‘cuts’ you want. And if the staff are the only ones who can select them, and it’s not up to expectation, just walk away and don’t buy them. A $3 lesson I learnt today. (@_@)
