Back Again: Real Food @ Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, Yishun

Went back to Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre again today, even though I was there just last week with my darling! 😀 Had an early lunch with my pal. We ate at Real Food, where I ordered their Baked Mushroom w/Cheese ($14.80++) and my friend chose the Scrambled Tofu with Broccoli ($9.80). The color of the scrambled tofu was a little disconcerting. I guess they might have added turmeric. I finished everything on my plate but my friend struggled to eat half of hers. XD If you’re wondering, I had baked stuffed portobello mushrooms served with fresh greens, potato salad, and vegan mayonnaise. Everything was delicious. Meanwhile, my pal said that the individual components on her plate lacked cohesiveness. And I paraphrase – “They taste good as individuals, but they do nothing for each other, like they shouldn’t be together at all… they’re not matchy-matchy.” 😀 I told her she should be a food critic.

Also, I’d reached Tzu Chi a little earlier than she did so I went for a stroll. She called and asked if I was still “在逛御花园” (i.e. having a walk around the Imperial Garden). So funny! My pals seem to all have a good sense of humor. How lucky I am.

The “Imperial Garden”.

I ordered the Citrus Melon Tea that I’d raved about previously, while my pal had a latte. And she was impressed by the latte art – “Quick! Take a picture!!!” And so I did…

I picked the table with the comfy sofa seats and my pal almost disappeared as she sank into the seat… here’s a pic of her with the clipboard containing the menu. She thought I was taking a picture of her, but I was more interested in getting a picture of her tshirt.

I also asked the staff if I could go next door to buy some buns and bring them back into Real Food to eat, and the answer was yes I could.

However… the Cinnamon rolls were out of stock AGAIN! Last week, someone ahead of me in the queue bought the last one. And today, when I’m there SO early, they’re sold out. I guess it’s fated. But it also makes me want to get my hands on the cinnamon rolls even more!!! 😀

I ordered the Veggie Nuggets ($9.80++) at Real Food as consolation. But eaten on their own… there’s nothing quite remarkable about them. Chicken nuggets will still win, hands-down. However, do ask for their chili sauce. I believe it’s homemade with lots of ginger. So good!

I definitely think I’ll be back again. Real Food has some hits n misses but the staff are friendly, the food is fresh, and the view is just fabulous.
