Basil Beef Rice $6 (GST inclusive)

We reached Compass One at about 4-ish in the afternoon and we stood at the atrium (yes, the stalls are back!) and wondered if we should go grab an early dinner (since we weren’t feeling especially peckish yet) OR go do our grocery shopping first. I felt it might be a good idea to have our meal before the dinner crowd arrives and thankfully… that’s what we did. Nakhon Kitchen is so very popular. There’s a constant stream of customers. Diners at one table would complete their meal and leave and then there’d be two groups of diners heading in… So the eatery was filling out quickly even though it was still rather early for dinner. We did, unfortunately, get a table that was right at the entrance and I was seated next to the SafeEntry devices for scanning in/out. So it kept beeping as I was having my meal. Bummer. (Please DO NOT take this table… no matter what)

My darling ordered the Basil Beef Rice that you see in the first picture above while I had the Tom Yam Seafood Soup (the clear version, which looks deceptively non-spicy but sure packs a punch). You can request for chopped red + green chilis and also (surprise surprise) sambal balachan.

The food here is really tasty so you should have no trouble finishing everything. However, I must say that there’s a price to pay for that. XD I was very thirsty after the meal and went to get bubble tea at Gong Cha nearby. Meanwhile, my darling complained that he felt as if he’d eaten something too salty for dinner. I told him to have more water. Ha!

The boneless chicken wings were OK… not too bad… a tad dry but that’s what the dipping sauce at the side is for.

Anyway, this place is so popular that even solo diners had their meal here.

I suspect that once the 1-metre safe distancing rule is lifted, the eatery will have a lot more tables and chairs to cater to the constant stream of customers. Though it was so early then, the waiting time for the food was rather long for those who came in after us. One visibly pregnant lady had ordered takeaway and she stood outside Nakhon Kitchen for so long, I saw her let out a sigh and shift her weight from one foot to the other. Poor thing. Should have just sat down to wait.

Anyway… the atrium is looking gorgeous…

I did not purchase anything here. But I did get cookies from Famous Amos at the basement. 🙂 Interestingly, the lady who served me put two Zappy wipes into the plastic bag. I didn’t know Famous Amos gave out freebies but it sure was a nice touch. Super useful for those who wish to eat the cookies straightaway. 😀
