I first spotted this Soon Tofu outlet via GrabFood but never placed my order as on multiple occasions, it looked like it was about to rain (like right now) and I didn’t want the riders to (essentially) risk their lives to get me my meal during a thunderstorm. THEN recently… my sis messaged me about this place and said she thinks it’s “very good!!” and “very tasty!!!” <- yes, exclamation marks all hers. So… of course I had to try this for myself. I popped by today with my darling, and I was fully expecting a 10/10 meal. And I was really hungry too.
Alas!
I chose the Seafood Soon Tofu Set ($8) and my darling selected their Beef Soon Tofu Set ($7). After we’d collected the food once the buzzer sounded, my darling’s response was “The portion size is good for ladies ah!” which you can take to mean “WAH! Portion so small. Gonna be hungry again soon!” XD Also… there’s a tiny serving of kimchi (it’s really tiny, I kid you not) and a small bowl of rice that I suppose even children will have no trouble finishing. Well, the good thing is food will not be wasted… I guess.

My Seafood Soon Tofu Set was… hmm… disappointing in that (1) it was served lukewarm and (2) it wasn’t spicy (it’s like ‘bu la’ on a scale of ‘xiao la’ to ‘ma la’). I was really missing some freshly chopped chili padi. Haha! There were 2 small prawns, 2 mussels and 2 clams. And yes, the tofu is nice and soft, but it won’t blow anyone’s mind, methinks. It’s just soft tofu, period. One plus point, though, is that the soup’s not the MSG-laden kind so I finished it all, ‘cos I was hungry and there wasn’t much to eat lah. XD

Anyway, there are so many screenshots of food reviews about Soon Tofu at the stall that you will be overwhelmed by the hype and think you’re getting a meal sent straight from heaven. Hold your horses. It’s kind of foodcourt-quality but less hot so you can tuck in straightaway.

But don’t take my word for it. Go check out Soon Tofu Singapore on Facebook. They have just 2.5 stars via their customer reviews. Something seems off. Why so many food blogs raving about them but the customers have something different to say? I guess you should go try and figure it out yourself.
As for my darling and I, we’ve already decided this place is not quite worth a special trip. If we happen to be in the area, then yeah, we might dabao some food and definitely reheat it all at home. Strange how their soup should be served steaming hot but it isn’t. And YES! How did you know? I do always have chili padi in my fridge!
*p/s: We placed our order at 1.35pm today. So… we fully expected the food would be served hot, not lukewarm.
