McDonald’s in Malaysia – Plaza Angsana and why we may not visit again

We were in JB yesterday and… we ate at McDonald’s. Before you start asking WHY… take a look at their menu. 😀 Also, this outlet at Plaza Angsana even comes with a play area! Melody LOVES slides now. Haha! I remember her first experience going down a slide while seated on her Papa’s lap. She totally freaked out. Now she loves it. Also… it was our first visit to Plaza Angsana… and it might well be our last. LOL. Nothing to do with the mall per se – it has an interesting tenant mix, which caters largely to the local Muslim population. We had a bit of trouble getting into the carpark, so I’ll just blog about it here, to remind ourselves next time, if we do end up going back…

So what happened was… we followed the Google Maps’ directions… and there’s no issue there. We made a right turn towards the entrance of the carpark. There were two lanes filled with cars… and eventually these merged into one lane at the entry barrier where you’ll get a parking ticket by pressing a button. Trouble started at the merging point: My darling, and other reasonable motorists, follow the same principle – one car from the right goes ahead, then one from the left, and so on – and he let a car from the right cut in front of him. But the car right behind that one (with Doraemon stickers) literally tailgated the first one, and somehow managed to ‘push’ us out of the queue. Eventually our vehicle ended up like at the ‘shoulder’ of this stretch of road. Mr Doraemon was a nerdy-looking Chinese uncle who drove like a freaking gangster. My darling has amazing manners when driving but even he couldn’t take it, and wound down his window, stuck out a hand in a gesture to ask like “what the hell are you doing?” THANKFULLY, the driver in front whom we’d given the right of way to, noticed, and he stopped his vehicle, leaving a wide gap in front, so we could cut back in front of him, while he held Mr Doraemon’s car back. Wahaha. It was epic. So unexpected. So cool. So gentlemanly.

And guess what… now Mr Doraemon’s car is behind Mr Gentleman’s and ours, right? So we got to park our car first, and along comes Mr Doraemon’s car. He slowed down to GLARE AT US. OMG the fella has no shame. I would want to confront him, but… I have my baby with me so it’s his lucky day. Bl**dy idiot.

So… Singaporeans who wish to visit Angsana Plaza, do be prepared to do some defensive driving if you have the bad luck of running into Mr Doraemon too. Actually… just run into him. It’s fine. Muahahah.

[*Also, there wasn’t a lift (or we didn’t manage to find one) so we carried Melody and her stroller down lots of stairs] LOL!

And here’s what we had: two Happy Meals (one Spicy Ayam Goreng and one chicken porridge) plus Nasi Lemak with 2pcs of Spicy Ayam Goreng (fried chicken).

The bill came up to RM38.55, which is something like S$11. Super worth it. Drinks were also included – I chose iced milo and a bottle of mineral water.

Here’s the selection for Nasi Lemak and porridge:

And I love the Happy Meal menu at McDonald’s in Malaysia. It’s not just burger or nuggets or hot cakes. You can get fried chicken or even porridge! 😀 The porridge is delicious, by the way. And served piping hot, with red chili bits in it, so it’s neither bland nor boring.

The Happy Meals also come with sides like corn and fries.

And I bought the Happy Meals as I wanted to get the Pokemon trading cards. I got both the Pikachu ones and have yet to open them. Perhaps there’ll be some rare ones that are worth some money. XD

And finally… a pic of Melody:

Messy hair ‘cos her hair ties fell out, and she abhors headbands. But nevermind lah, still cute.

And if you’re wondering why she’s in a dress when we’re of the opinion that we should dress like beggars when in JB so we don’t become the targets of criminals… I gave her TWO tshirt choices. She was very hesitant to pick either one, because she’d already noticed the dress hanging in the wardrobe and she preferred to wear that.

So my ‘double bind’ with the tshirts failed. And I let her pick what she would wear yesterday. I believe that I should let her make choices often, and then more importantly, respect her decisions. I have witnessed parents asking their children what they’d like to eat (e.g. from a vending machine or at a mall) then when the child states his/her wish… it gets shot down immediately (“No chocolates for you! Choose either the bread or the biscuits!” But erm… you said I could choose something I wanted from the vending machine?)

These days, Melody gets her way pretty often. She sees what we’re eating, points (and maybe whines) and gets to eat the same thing too. I let her take bites from my RM3 Rotiboy bun yesterday… and sushi rice… and the Happy Meal steamed corn (pooped them out almost whole later). XD XD XD The day she starts drinking my bubble tea is probably when I’ll kick the habit.
