I did my research prior to our recent Taiwan trip in October… and Moon Moon Food was on our list of restaurants to visit but alas, when we were in Taipei itself, I found out that their Qingdao branch (which has gotten the Michelin Bib Gourmand accolade for 7 consecutive years since 2018) was closed due to (1) the dilapidated state of the building it was situated in, and (2) a possible cockroach infestation issue. As luck would have it, they set up shop right here in Singapore… in Ngee Ann City no less! The latter seems quite sturdy and pest-free, as far as we can tell so… bon appetit! Image may be NSFW.

So we popped by yesterday for lunch and there was a queue (DUH!) and the lady in-charge of welcoming guests at the entrance was evidently adept at not answering the question of “How long would we have to wait?” It really depends on how quickly the diners inside eat and leave. XD
We had to order their soup, of course. This one’s their Seabass Soup with Clam ($25.80++). The trainee who served this dish unfortunately spilled some of the soup and hence came back with the blue cloth to wipe up the mess. No harm done. As long as our precious toddler (look at those cute fingers!) was unharmed, all is forgiven.
The fish was tender, the clams were well-cleaned and not gritty, and there was quite a lot of cabbage under the fish+clams. This sweet soup really hit the spot. I’d rate it 8.5/10.

They gave each table of diners a free serving of keropok though. It’s kind of odd because this place is known for nourishing soups and healthy cuisine. XD But thank you anyway!

We ordered a mixed platter of 3 braised items (our choice) – Bai Ye Tofu, Pork Large Intestine, and Pork Ear. It’s $10.80++ for this platter:

We ordered their hot Longan Red Date Tea too ($9.60++ for two) and I loved it. Just the right amount of sweetness. I can easily drink this every single day.

Their Spicy Sesame Noodles ($13.80++) got them their Michelin Bib Gourmand accolade but pardon us, we don’t get why this dish is deserving. It tastes like overcooked coarse noodles in a mala sauce. And there’s no protein – no prawn, no fish, no meat, nothing. Why does this dish cost over 16 Singapore Dollars?!

At the entrance to the restaurant in Ngee Ann City, #05-30, they remind you that they’re kinda famous, so it’s necessary to queue/wait Image may be NSFW.

This meal cost us $80.09 including SC and GST. Would we go back again? I think so, but we’ll be more selective. Just the braised pork rice and chicken soup for me next time, thanks!
