I saw someone’s Tiktok post about Ma Maison some time back, and it kinda stuck in my head. So we popped by yesterday for dinner since we were at Bugis. It’s one of those country-style restaurants which look so homey, it feels like you’re visiting maybe an English friend’s place. We reached around 5.30pm when there was NO queue yet. And I wondered if this restaurant had lost its allure. Haha. But inside, there was already a good crowd, and after we had ordered our food, a line started forming outside. First impressions: we’re made to feel very welcome, water’s served promptly without you having to ask, and most items on the menu look delicious so for those with decision-making issues, kindly check out the menu online prior to visiting. XD
First up, we had oysters. Just 2 pieces for $9.60++ and actually they kinda taste like Don Don Donki’s sans lemon and salad. And these were served warm. Will probably skip this next time cos meah…

I ordered the Foie Gras with Hamburg ($34.80++) while hubby had the Katsu Curry Omu Rice ($25.80++) which he enjoyed.

I like that Ma Maison doesn’t overly season their food so it all feels healthy and delicious. I don’t know why but I suddenly felt like eating foie gras yesterday. It’s been years since I last ate FG so… (@_@) Hehehe! The hamburg was awesome – cooked perfectly and there was a surprise within: an egg that did not have a runny yolk BUT the yolk was still soft and very tasty. Melody loved the broccoli (and wanted more) and the baby carrots. As for the potatoes, they were unremarkable as they’re not fried like wedges, and not soft within like curry potatoes. They were still firm and just a little crispy on the outside and that’s it. XD Never had potatoes cooked this way.

The lunch menu seems to offer pretty good value-for-money. Perhaps we’ll pop by for lunch next time without the “baby”. They do have baby chairs but I think Melody doesn’t really enjoy the atmosphere here (lighting’s a tad dim, and there wasn’t much to interest this toddler).

This meal (starter and 2 mains) cost $84.17 with SC and GST. The wet wipes are complimentary so go ahead and use them or take them home. XD
If you’re in Bugis Junction, here’s one spot I’d definitely recommend you enjoy a meal at. I don’t want to use the term “hidden gem” as it’s overused, but this place is tucked into a corner of the mall, easy to overlook, and generally just fits the bill of a “good place to dine at near/on Christmas Day”. XD
