9-piece Nigiri Sushi ($59)

As my pal was celebrating his 70th birthday yesterday with a staycation at Marina Bay Sands, I decided we should have dinner with him + wifey at ‘Sen of Japan’ located within MBS. Was it a “self-invite” to someone’s birthday celebration? It might have been! Muahaha! Since I’d ordered his birthday present from overseas many months ago, I felt it should be presented to him on his birthday, period. 😀 And I’ll throw in cake and a dinner treat too.

Sen of Japan is a lovely Japanese restaurant with a menu “designed by Chef Nakano Hiromi, who used to head the famous NOBU at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas”. We truly have no complaints about the ambiance, the tempura, the sushi, the cod, the view, and the service! 😀 Feast your eyes on the pictures, if you will…

The Carbless Roll ($26)

Such a brilliant idea! A sushi roll without any rice! It tasted as delightful as it looked! I would certainly order this again. Actually, I just might try making this at home myself! I can find all the ingredients at the FairPrice Finest store at Waterway Point! 😀

Black Cod Soy ($29.50)

Apparently, their Black Cod Soy is FAMOUS! And I’d say this is a MUST-ORDER dish. The flavors are so well-infused into that slab of fish that I can truly feel content just having this dish of cod with plain porridge. Haha! I absolutely LOVE cod fish – one of the most expensive fish you can find in a supermarket.

Spicy Salmon & Salmon Roll ($17.50)

Really, really compact pieces of salmon roll. It’s like an appetiser dish – not about to fill your stomach much. Unless you drink lots of that (refillable) hot green tea at $5 per pax.

And we also had a dish of tempura – Tempura Moriwase ($19.50) – which the birthday boy wanted.

Gorgeous pieces of tempura which looked like they had been air-fried. Couldn’t see any sign of oil, which is great!

I’m not sure what it’s like to be 70 years old. I’m guessing it may be considered a privilege because not many people get to live till 70 and still enjoy overall good health. And we had a rather healthy dinner at Sen at Japan too! 😀 *Chocolate cake was waiting for us in the hotel room. Haha! Also, I asked my pal for some ‘life lessons’ to share in a blogpost, and you’ll read about it on my blog in a bit! 😉
