It’s the durian season now so there’s no better time to indulge! We made a special trip to Geylang yesterday to get dinner and dessert. I love the siew mai ($3.80 for 4) and the custard bao ($4.90 for 3). The $4 fish porridge was delicious – definitely order this if you’re feeling under the weather… from eating too much durian, perhaps?
Haha! My darling had bought durians from Deluxe Private Limited and Durian Boy last week so we went back to the former to get a few more.
Nothing quite like durian straight from the husk.

We’d picked 2 durians which cost $5 each. Turned out to be a big mistake as the durians looked big but had only 3 seeds inside. LOL

The ‘3 for $20’ durians were definitely better – we bought 5 for $30.

Most of the seeds were small and flat.

We’ll probably go back for the $12 durians next time. The cheaper ones will not be packed into boxes for customers but most of the staff don’t mind opening the durians for you – and by that I mean they’ll make cuts into the husk.
I think it’s good to go around 4pm or so when the latest batch of durians have arrived via lorry. Then you can take your pick.
I have yet to try one of those durians being sold at $2 each – whether it’s at a supermarket or a fruit stall. But I definitely won’t be surprised if there ends up being only 1 or 2 seeds within. LOL.
