I spotted a post on FB regarding the sale of durians at GIANT Tampines this afternoon and told my darling we had to go check it out. And so we did. We reached GIANT at about 4.10pm and there were only a few people in the queue as the news had only just gone out and we must have been among the first batch to respond. There were durians going at just $2 each, others going at $5 a fruit or 3 for $10. And the most expensive ones cost $15 each – Black Pearl and D24. We bought 2 sets of the 3 for $10 durians, 2 of the $5 ones and just one $2 durian as most of them didn’t seem very attractive.
Since it’s only the first day of the durian fair, as may be expected, the quality of the durians really is pretty good! I’m impressed. I was told by the lady at the cashier that the fair will run till next Thursday so there’s plenty of time to head down if you’d like to. GIANT at IMM is likely offering durians as well though I did note that at Tampines, we’re allowed to pick up to 5 of the $2 durians per person, while this number is only 2 in the FB post I saw (possibly taken at IMM).

As for the $2 durian, my darling was very excited at finding that there’s a little “black thorn” on the durian. Is this really the legendary Black Thorn Durian?! I don’t know. The durian’s a small one though…

Definitely pop by today if you can. Hopefully the durians are not all sold out already. I’m not sure if the quality will be the same from tomorrow onwards.
We do know that the durians we bought from Sheng Siong in Bedok weren’t all that good. We missed the the sale when it first started… that’s when durians were really cheap (at $2 also) and when we eventually got there (hello, 3 for $20 durians), we found that the durians contained few seeds and yielded little flesh.
All in all, I’m very pleased with today’s haul.
