KKH Car Seat Clinic: FREE Car Seat Check-up!

Not the scene of an accident. Our baby’s car seat had been removed and was being inspected. XD

One thing that’s been on my mind is to have Melody’s car seat adjusted as she has grown taller and the seatbelt straps need some repositioning. And coincidentally, I saw somewhere on social media that KKH was providing FREE car seat check-ups, so I signed us up. We went by today (a Saturday) and the usually-packed carpark had many vacant lots. I informed Shelly that we were early and if they would like us to be at the car seat clinic earlier than our 11am slot, we could head there. Or else, we’d be shopping at mothercare first. (<- There are always past-season outfits on sale. Hehe)

And I got a shock when I found the KKH team in a corner of the carpark. We’d expected to see maybe 3 or 5 people there to assist clueless parents like us who need help with car seat adjustments. BUT… I counted TEN pax. OMG. They were done working on other cars too so we did not see any other parents / babies. It was JUST US. And someone asked if we had just one car seat – our answer was “Yes, just one” but inwardly I was thinking ‘OMG HENG AH! Imagine if we needed two or three car seats – that means we have too many children!!!’

Hence, that scene ensued. In the first image above, you see a whole group of KKH staff descending upon our one lonely car seat. XD

I’m not exactly sure why each individual was there. Hubz said they were volunteering their time on a Saturday, I think. OMG YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! And they were folks from various departments in KKH. One guy in the blue KKH uniform was apparently a doctor too. OMG. I think we honestly expected to meet some folks from like er… a training department for car seat safety or like actual staff from companies which sell car seats. So we were very touched to find that KKH staff volunteered(?!) to man this car seat clinic on a weekend. And I even spotted a lady who was pregnant (I’m guessing 37 weeks but I may be wrong) and she was even moving chairs around. I get a bit nervous when heavily pregnant ladies start carrying (heavy) objects but then I figured… eh we are at KKH – if she needs to deliver a baby right now, she’ll be in really good hands within minutes. So I shut up and kept all unsolicited advice to myself.

And they even had a little play area set up for kids to be entertained. There were drinks (cold mineral water, milo, ribena, etc, and snacks too) And, as you can see, bubble blowers and coloring sheets too. (Did I mention this car seat clinic is free?)

Yup, that’s Melody’s foot right there in the corner.

So I left father and daughter at the carpark as I desperately needed to pee. After which, I bought a chocolate waffle (it’s famous) and popped by mothercare too.

Was $45.90, now $20(?!)

$35.90 -> $15 so I bought Melody this pair of denim jeans! Cute, right?!

When I returned to the carpark…

Hubby was playing with the bubble blower and…

Another lady was carrying Melody:

Now that I take a closer look, two ladies in the background (one pregnant) were checking out Melody’s pink fan – it’s awesome btw. Best fan ever.

To sum up today’s experience… we were mindblown. Very, very touched that this hospital cares for babies even wayyyy after they are born. Melody’s 8 months old already and she now sits very securely in her car seat. 🙂 I follow KKH on social media so I know they’ve recently implemented a truly commendable initiative: allowing music to be played during csections so ladies can better relax during surgery and have better outcomes (pain management, anxiety reduction, etc) I do wish they’d offered this when I had my csection (I remember crying and shaking a whole lot) but I’m happy that pregnant ladies can look forward to more enjoyable (or rather, less traumatic) surgeries.

Once again, a big THANK YOU to all the lovely folk at the best maternity hospital in SG!
